Neel is the founder and executive director of Costs of Care, a 501c3 nonprofit venture that uses information technology to prevent personal bankruptcies caused by medical bills. As a doctor working in some of the best academic medical centers in the country, he became convinced that even the best doctors sometimes neglect something critical, the bill. He has published commentary on this topic and contributed scholarship on the impact of health IT on medical practice through fellowship appointments at Harvard Law School and the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium.
Neel is currently a resident physician in obstetrics and gynecology at the Brigham & Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he maintains a strong interest in women's cancers, and the interaction of social media and women's health. Prior to residency, Neel graduated from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, and when not in the hospital, he continues to be politically active.
Neel lives on the MIT campus as a graduate resident tutor for the undergraduate students, along with his wife Julie and their South American parrot Bolivar.
